Team Outreach

  • FLL – FIRST LEGO League
    • FLL is for ages 9 – 14, with 2 – 10 children per team
    • FLL House Teams
      • Started 2 FLL House Teams in the fall of 2012
      • House Teams are coached by Project NEO students, are financially supported with team funds, and meet at APECHS during Project NEO hours.
    • Added an additional FLL House Team in 2013
  • FLL NM Qualifiers
    • Began hosting and financially supporting 1 of 5 New Mexico FLL Qualifiers in 2014
    • Fall 2018, Project NEO hosted their 5th FLL NM Qualifier
      • 2018 FLL Qualifier hosted 24 teams
      • November 17 at Oñate High School
      • 8 LCPS teams are completely financially supported by Project NEO, with an additional 4 being partly supported
      • 1 team is a Project NEO House Team and is mentored by FRC students, supported with Project NEO funds, and meets at the same time as FRC
      • The remaining teams are community teams, private school teams, or from other towns in NM
  • FLL Jr - FIRST LEGO League Junior
    • FLL Jr is for ages 5 – 10, with 2 to 6 children per team
    • Spring 2017 held first FLL Jr Expo for 4 teams in the APECHS Activity Center
      • 1 team was financially supported by Project NEO (SNMSA) funds and used a SNMSA owned LEGO WeDo 2.0 Kits
    • Fall 2017 - FLL Jr Expo for 11 teams in the APECHS Activity Center
      • All teams were supported by Project NEO (SNMSA) funds and used SNMSA owned LEGO WeDo 2.0 Kits
    • Spring 2018 held FLL Jr Expo for 24 teams in the APECHS Activity Center
      • All teams were supported by Project NEO (SNMSA) funds and used SNMSA owned LEGO WeDo 2.0 Kits
      • Fall 2018 held 2 FLL Jr Expos for 42 teams, approximately 250 students
      • Expos held at Hillrise Elementary on the morning and afternoon of December 1.
      • 26 teams are supported by Project NEO (SNMSA) funds and are using SNMSA owned LEGO WeDo 2.0 Kits
      • 4 of the 26 teams are community teams
      • The remainder of the teams are supported by the Hillrise Elementary PTO.
      • Hillrise Elementary purchased own small season pass
        • All third grade students will participate in FLL Jr Fall 2018
        • All second grade students will participate in FLL Jr Spring 2019
      • Spring 2018 we expect about the same level of participation as the Fall season
  • Tech-Know Thursdays
    • Held in Building 5 at APECHS during the FLL season (August – January)
    • These are weekly offerings of training sessions, practice sessions, etc to help both FLL coaches and students, and FLL Jr coaches
    • Sessions are taught by Project NEO students
  • Las Cruces Public Schools
    • 2018-2019 was the first year FLL Jr and FLL were LCPS approved hands-on classroom programs under the NM STEM READY! SCIENCE STANDARDS released by NM PED in May 2018.
  • FTC – FIRST Tech Challenge
    • FTC is for ages 12 – 18
    • Started Fall 2018
    • FTC is coached by Project NEO FRC mentors
    • Meets at APECHS
    • Funding was from fundraising, with a small percentage from SNMSA funds
